On Sunday, November 26th will be the second annual Kidney Foundation Christmas Market at the Kitchener Market. We’ll be around offering food for purchase for hungry attendees. With 50 vendors, a bake sale, children’s entertainment, and door prizes, this is a fun event for the whole family – proceeds go towards the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Look for some of our cookies in the bake sale as well, we’ll be donating some to help support the cause as well.
We had a busy Thanksgiving weekend and we’d like to give our thanks to the fantastic organizers and staff who ran the Craftoberfest event on Friday and Saturday for making it that way! We’d also like to thank you, for keeping us hard at work cutting French fries and making delicious sliders well into the night. We’re very excited for next year’s event, having made it through the inaugural year at Kitchener Market and gotten a feel for it. We heard a lot of good things about our food, had a great time despite long hours, and got to try a lot of amazing beers from local producers.
Speaking of which – coming up next Thursday evening, the 19th is Taps and Apps at the Walper Hotel which has many more participating local restaurants and benefits Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Waterloo Region. We’ll be there doing some crostini versions of Tom Yum Chicken, Roast Beef and Horseradish, and Brown Butter Squash to pair with the delicious beers being offered.
We’re bringing back some big hitters for our fall menu this year. Rotating on to the menu we have some customer favourites – the brown butter squash, the pulled brisket reuben, and the ms. piggy. We’re instituting a delivery menu which curates delivery-friendly sandwiches year-round.
Some awesome events coming up – Taste Local, Taste Fresh, Craftoberfest, Taps and Apps, and more. Details coming soon.
We had a blast this past weekend at Steel Rails 2016. The event was, for the first time, not on a train, but instead emulated the train feel with a series of rented shipping containers plonked down around a factory, which all contained art of all forms – a food/celebrity pun series of printed art, live performances both acrobatic and acoustic, and a tarot reader were among some of the attractions.
We pumped out 600 sandwiches, most of which contained a delicious batch of braised pork shoulder and a house made barbecue sauce. We’ll likely have these little babies on our menu soon. We’re looking forward to Steel Rails 2017, whether we provide delicious food or just attend the event ourselves.
We’re proud to be participating again this year in Lutherwood’s Steps for Kids, a fundraiser for children’s mental health. It’s a walk/run where teams take pledges benefiting the Lutherwood Children’s Mental Health Centre. The event takes place on May 1st of this year. We’ll be bringing some grilled veggie wraps and chicken caesar wraps to feed participants and volunteers. We’re kicking off a partnership with Apollo Cinema whereupon we’re going to be collectively inventing and serving food that fits a movie theme. The first such event will be on May 24th entitled “Breakfast of Champions with the Three Amigos.” Apollo will be showing the classic 1980′s comedy starring Chevy Chase, Martin Short and Steve Martin. We’ll be serving up some delicious egg burritos at the cinema for you to try and eat at your seat between bouts of hilarity. Scrambled farm eggs, house cured bacon, sautéed peppers and onions and a lightly spicy mayonnaise in a toasted 10″ tortilla. We’re excited to come up with more ideas for film tie-in food and make this recurring event a winner! Check out the ticket page for the inaugural event.
We’re proud to be sponsoring Lutherwood’s annual Steps for Kids this summer on May 3rd. The walk is a 3-5 km walk through scenic North Waterloo, starting and ending at the Lutherwood Children’s Mental Health Centre, for which participants are fundraising. We’ll be on-site at the event, grilling up wraps made from our ever-changing menu (TBA by the way) and handing them out to participants.
